WE Are CNCS

Can you imagine a place where students' learning is creative, responsive, and engaging? The arts are an integral piece to all learning in our school community. Students learn actively in a workshop model. Children and teachers ask essential questions like “Is peace possible?” “Does history matter?” and they have time to do long-term in depth explorations to find answers together. They develop deep and strong relationships that are valued and are given time to grow. At CNCS, standardized tests do not drive the work, and children learn in carefully designed and beautifully created physical spaces. Come learn with us at CNCS!

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

At City Neighbors Charter School, we employ project-based learning to inspire students to tackle real-world issues, fostering problem-solving skills. Our interdisciplinary projects offer opportunities for students to showcase their learning to authentic audiences.

ARTS-INTEGRATED LEARNING

CNCS integrates arts (music, visual art, media arts, and drama) into non-arts subjects, enriching learning and promoting cross-disciplinary connections. The aim is to deepen understanding in subjects and cultivate appreciation for diverse art forms.

What Sets
Us Apart

Beginning in the summer of 2003 as a grassroots movement among a group of 17 families—city neighbors—worked together and submitted the charter for an arts-integrated, project-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired parent-school cooperative in Baltimore. City Neighbors Charter School, our founding school, opened in the fall of 2005 with 120 students in grades K-5. Today, City Neighbors Charter School is a thriving K-8 with 232 students.
